1. The Optimal Particle Size: 1mm to 25mm
The Jigger performs at its peak when processing minerals between 1mm and 25mm.
- Fine Particles: If the mineral particles are too fine, the enrichment ratio suffers. For fine gold recovery, you may consider adding a Centrifugal Concentrator to your circuit.
- Coarse Particles: If the ore is too coarse, it leads to serious “tailing” issues. We recommend using a Jaw Crusher or Wet Pan Mill to ensure proper liberation.
2. Positioning: A Roughing Master, Not a Finishing Tool
A Jigger is most effective as a roughing device rather than for fine cleaning.
- Roughing Stage: For minerals like manganese or chromite, the Jigger is the ideal first step.
- Finishing Stage: To reach the final marketable grade, the concentrate should be processed using a Shaking Table or a Ball Mill for precision separation.
3. Alluvial Gold: Direct Marketable Concentrate
When processing alluvial (river) gold, the Jigger can often produce a concentrate that directly meets sellable standards.
- In many river mining setups, combining a Trommel Screen with a Jigger creates a highly efficient Gold Wash Plant.
- Even gold dust with a grade of 4–5 grams per ton is highly valuable in the current market.
4. Versatility Across Mineral Types
While used for roughing in tungsten and tin, the Jigger excels in specific purification tasks:
- Barite & Fluorite: For coarse-grained minerals, the Jigger often achieves the required industrial grade in a single pass.
- Magnetic Ores: If your ore contains high iron content, integrating a Magnetic Separator after the Jigger stage is highly recommended.
